Jith Paul is a communications professional, digital strategist, and independent filmmaker who operates at the intersection of digital systems and cinematic storytelling. Holding a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a diploma in Television Broadcasting from Algonquin College, he built a multifaceted career spanning enterprise software design, business analysis, communications, and film production. In film, Paul founded Treepot Media in 2010 to produce independent shorts, documentaries, and music videos. His directorial debut, Algebra, follows a painter confronting the loss of his eyesight and screened internationally, including at the Festival International Entr'2 Marches in Cannes. He also directed A Clean Slate, an ACTRA short about a former singer overcoming stage fright, which won Best International Short Film at Italy's Valle d'Itria Film Festival. As a producer, Polar Bear Love, Moments, and Perfect were selected for CBC Television's Short Film Face Off. His producing credits also include Karim Ayari's bilingual short drama Before Me / L'homme de la maison, which won Best Film at the Festival du Court-Métrage d'Auch in France. As an editor, Paul has worked on documentaries and narrative films including Partners for Peace, which follows North American women traveling to Israel and Palestine and screened at the Victoria Film Festival and Washington DC Independent Film Festival. He also edited North Boys and Zachary Chabot's Bytowne, a bilingual short depicting a chance encounter between an English speaker and a French speaker at an art gallery that screened at the Festival du film de l'Outaouais and earned a runner-up award at the Ottawa Youth Film Festival. Beyond filmmaking, Paul has helped build Ottawa's screen arts community. He ran the Treepot Film Festival, showcasing more than 150 Canadian films between 2011 and 2014, and co-founded the Ottawa Canadian Film Festival (OCan) in 2015. He served on its board for a decade, helping establish it as a federally registered charity and Canadian Screen Award-qualifying festival.
